Research at Yale: Grants and research funding

Resources related to grants and research funding opportunities are available on the Research at Yale website.

QuantumCT funding opportunities

QuantumCT is a public-private partnership accelerating the adoption of quantum technologies in Connecticut and working with a broad coalition of partners to lay the groundwork for expansive, equitable economic development.

We encourage:

  • Grant submissions, particularly in 2024
  • Cross-institution applications among Connecticut educational institutions, particularly those serving minorities
  • Submissions for projects whose education and workforce development component may be provided by partnering with QuantumCT
  • Submissions for the development of education materials with a quantum science theme that can be facilitated by partnering with a QuantumCT research team

We strongly encourage faculty with a research interest in quantum and quantum-adjacent technologies to consider applying.  A full list of available grant opportunities is available. Please contact Faculty Research Management Services (FRMS) regarding your intent to apply. In your email, copy the Office of Research Development (internal.proposals@yale.edu).

Information about quantum education and workforce initiatives that may align with your proposal, including at Yale, UConn, and other Connecticut and minority-serving institutions, is available at QuantumCT.

Students

Undergraduate students

Yale College students can get involved in quantum research. Learn more about research opportunities for Yale undergraduates.

A list of all quantum-related undergraduate courses can be found on Yale Course Search.

Graduate students

The principal investigators (PIs) of quantum research groups regularly seek new graduate students. Admission to graduate programs is open to students with a bachelor of science (B.S.) in physics, applied physics, chemistry, and materials science, or related engineering fields.

For details on the admissions process, please consult the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website.

Enrolled Ph.D. students looking to work in quantum should also consider the NRT-QL: Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Quantum Materials Science and Engineering. Prospective graduate students interested in the certificate and program can indicate their interest in their graduate school applications.

Postdoctoral Associates

Applications

Applications for postdoctoral associates are accepted on a continuing basis. Please consult individual research group websites for details.

YQI Fellowship

Each year, the Yale Quantum Institute (YQI) invites applicants for the YQI Fellowship. This fellowship supports recent Ph.D. recipients performing quantum science research in a YQI faculty member’s group.
